The Atelier

Where we make brass jewellery and other fine things

Our studio is next door to the gallery. We cut, hammer, solder and polish every Old Coach Road piece here. You are welcome to come in and see what we are working on.

Hammered brass cuffs on fluted concrete pots, a lucky bell ring on a concrete dish

01How a piece is made

Four steps, all by hand

  1. Wire earrings on a cut wooden bar

    01

    Draw and cut

Each piece starts as a sketch. We cut the shapes from brass sheet by hand or on the laser cutter in the studio.

  2. Hand-hammered brass plates with dark fire marks

    02

    Hammer

Hammering gives brass its texture and its strength. Every mark is made by hand, so no two cuffs or plates are quite the same.

  3. Brass pendants with bud-shaped bells

    03

    Tinker

Bells, loops and petals are soldered on one at a time. This step takes the longest.

  4. Finished rings on white ceramic dishes

    04

    Finish and tag

We file, polish and tag each piece with our stamp before it goes onto the shelf next door.

02Commissions and repairs

Custom work, repairs and laser cutting

We take on a small number of custom pieces, repairs and laser cutting jobs alongside our own work. Tell us what you need and we will tell you whether we can help and how long it will take.

  • Custom jewellery

A ring in your size, a bangle with your initials, a piece in silver instead of brass. Tell us what you have in mind and we will tell you what is possible.

  • Small repairs

A broken clasp, a snapped chain, an earring that has lost its hook. Bring it in and we will look at it.

  • Laser cutting

We cut and engrave wood, card and acrylic on our laser cutter: signs, tags, displays and small runs for local businesses.
